Quick answers to your TransP2P questions
About Service
TransP2P is a browser-based P2P file transfer tool that allows direct file transfer between devices without uploading to third-party servers. It uses WebRTC technology to enable end-to-end encrypted direct connections.
Basic features are completely free. You can use P2P direct transfer for files of any size without registering an account. Premium features (like server cache transfer) use a pay-per-use model.
Yes. In P2P direct mode, files are transferred via end-to-end encryption, and our server only handles connection establishment without storing or accessing your file content. In server cache mode, files are stored encrypted and can only be accessed via generated download links.
Features & Usage
Chrome or Edge is recommended for the best experience.
- Desktop (Windows, Mac, Linux): Chrome, Edge recommended; Firefox, Safari also work
- Mobile (iOS, Android): Chrome recommended (Android); Safari and system browsers also work
Browser Feature Comparison
| Feature | Chrome/Edge | Safari | Firefox |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large file resume transfer | โ Supported | โ Supported | โ Supported |
| Break memory limit (>2GB) | โ Supported | โ Not supported | โ Supported |
| Folder transfer | โ Supported | โ Supported | โ Supported |
Transfer size mainly depends on browser memory limits:
- Chrome/Edge/Firefox (desktop): ~2GB, can break limit with resume transfer
- Chrome (Android): ~1-2GB, can break limit with resume transfer
- iOS Safari: More strict limits (a few hundred MB), cannot break even with resume transfer
- macOS Safari: ~2GB, can break limit with resume transfer
Why memory limits? Browsers need to load the entire file into memory to process it. Without resume transfer, exceeding memory limits may crash the browser.
No. TransP2P uses an account-free design. Just open the webpage and start using it.
Currently, folders are transferred via compression. Please compress the folder into a ZIP file before uploading, and the recipient can unzip it after receiving.
For large file transfers, follow these steps:
- Go to "Receive Settings" โ "Transfer Settings"
- Enable "Enable Resume Transfer"
- Set "Resume Threshold" (100MB+ recommended)
- For large files, the system will automatically enable resume transfer
- If transfer is interrupted, initiate the same file transfer again to continue from where it left off
Transfer Modes
| Mode | Description | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| P2P Direct | Direct transfer between devices, end-to-end encrypted, fast | Both online, prioritize speed and privacy |
| Dedicated Line | Enhanced direct mode, stronger penetration | When direct connection fails (coming soon) |
| Server Cache | File uploaded to server, generates download link | Offline transfer, large files, complex networks |
- P2P Direct: Both online, good network, prioritize speed and privacy
- Dedicated Line: Both online but unstable direct connection (coming soon)
- Server Cache: Need offline transfer, large files, or complex network environment
Comparison with Other Tools
- WeChat requires adding friends, TransP2P requires no account
- WeChat has file size limits, TransP2P has no limits
- WeChat files go through Tencent servers, TransP2P P2P mode is end-to-end encrypted
- WeChat files may expire, TransP2P direct mode needs no storage
- AirDrop only works with Apple devices, TransP2P is cross-platform
- AirDrop requires devices to be physically close, TransP2P has no distance limit
- AirDrop is limited to Apple ecosystem, TransP2P works with any device
- Email attachments typically have a 25MB limit
- Email attachments may expire
- TransP2P has no size limit and no expiration risk
- Cloud storage requires account registration and upload/download time
- TransP2P direct transfer needs no upload waiting
- Cloud storage files are stored on third-party servers, TransP2P direct mode files don't go through servers
Technical Questions
Connection failures are usually caused by:
- Network environment issues: Firewalls or routers may restrict WebRTC connections. Ensure devices can access the internet and try switching networks
- Mobile restrictions: Mobile devices should connect to stable Wi-Fi. Mobile networks (4G/5G) may have P2P restrictions
- NAT traversal issues: Some network environments (enterprise networks, strict firewalls) make P2P connections difficult. Try switching to common networks or use server cache mode
WebRTC is a browser-built-in real-time communication technology that allows browsers to establish direct peer-to-peer connections without using intermediate servers to transmit data.
Yes. Transferring files consumes data traffic equivalent to the file size.
- In P2P direct mode, traffic goes directly from sender to receiver without server relay
- Tip: If both parties are on the same local network, traffic is mainly within the local network for best experience
